Repositories
The menu of the menu bar determines which repos are being queried. "Local" packages are the ones that were installed from somewhere other than an online repo; maybe from a USB thumb drive or downloaded from some website or a package that you've built yourself.
Show
By picking one of three kinds of packages in the menu, you can limit the scope of packages to the ones you're actually interested in:
- Shows every kind of packages, i.e. everything from applications to libraries needed by developers.
- Shows only 'real' applications; the kind you'll find in the Deskbar, for example.
- Same as above, but limited to Haiku 'native' applications. Those are created especially for Haiku and were not ported from another system, which normally means coming with lots of heavy dependencies like KDE or Qt frameworks.
Furthermore, you can choose to also display and in the packages list. For the normal user those are of no interest and would only clutter the list. They are important, however, for people who need the libraries, headers etc. of a package to develop and compile programs depending on them.
